Australia Day fun on the Sunshine Coast

There are plenty of activities happening around the Sunshine Coast this Australia Day.

Looking for something to do this long weekend? Check out these cultural and family-friendly activities.

Australia Day Parade

The 2018 Australia Day parade will come down Burnett Street in Buderim. There will be plenty of street entertainment and food stalls and a military jet flyover will start off the parade at 9am. The parade ends at the new Buderim Village Park.

Multi-faith thanksgiving service

Head along to Buderim’s St Mark’s Church for a multi-faith thanksgiving service at 7.30am, where representatives from Buddhist, Bahá’í, Jewish, Islamic, Christian and other religious groups come together to celebrate the Sunshine Coast’s diverse religious communities.

Australia Day at Aussie World

In 2018 you can enjoy a day filled with true-blue events, live music and fun for the whole family at Downunder Drive. The free Australia Day festivities include the famous dunny races, tug of war, family fun, kids activities and entertainment. The fun starts on the Aussie World Oval from 8am.

Marcoola Rocks

Marcoola Rocks Australia Day is a free family fun day brought to you by Marcoola Surf Club. Enjoy live tunes on the dunes all day, rides, Australian animals, a marketplace, a mechanical surf board, dunk tank, Australian tucker and much more. Entries are also now open for the Marcoola Rocks Fun Run. There are two-and-a-half, five- and 10-kilometre courses along the beautiful stretch of beach.

Check out the animals

Join Australia Zoo for an Aussie day out and celebrate with some of our nation’s native animals. Enjoy pie eating competitions, face painting, pony rides, free billy tea and damper, live entertainment and so much more.

Australia Day Epic Beach Party at The Shore

The Shore Sundowner Lounge setting at Twin Waters is the quintessential Australian playground with kangaroos jumping through the resort, waterfront sandy beaches, barbecues and a wood-fired oven, a caravan-bar serving up cold drinks and live music where you can be serenaded by the sounds of summer. Plus the night sky will be lit up at the 8pm fireworks display over the lagoon.

Bunya Dreaming Gathering

People from all backgrounds will come together to celebrate the best of their cultures from 2pm to 4pm at the Ewen Maddock Recreation Centre. Entry is by $10 donation. Tickets are available at barunglandcare.org.au.

Australia Day at the Imperial Hotel Eumundi

Celebrate Australia Day 2018 at this classic Australian hotel. The live music kicks off from midday with Renny Field playing acoustic grooves. Annie J will then take over the mic from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
