Advocate for blood donation launches book

Following the success of the Milkshakes for Marleigh podcast and being recognised at the 2023 International Women Changing the World Awards in London, blood donation advocate Kate Fisher is releasing her first book.

Ms Fisher is a fierce blood-donation advocate and thanks the blood donors who have kept her seven-year-old daughter Marleigh alive.

The Milkshakes for Marleigh book is a collection of extraordinary tales of survival, thanks to Australian blood donors.

Ms Fisher is on a mission to end persistent critical blood shortages in Australia and around the world, given the statistics that one-in-three Australians will need blood in their lifetime, but only one in 30 donate.

She says it can be challenging to create change in the world, and calls on others to think about how they can make a difference.

“As storyteller and changemaker, I’ve made a creative solution to a social problem,” Ms Fisher says.

“I hope that by bridging the gap of anonymity between blood donors and their recipients, people will be reminded of the importance of blood donation and make it a lifelong priority to be a blood donor.”

Ms Fisher will have copies of the book available for purchase and signing at Annie’s Bookstore, Peregian Beach, at 10 am on December 17. The book will be available in stores in January.
