Artists get ready for market

Emerging Sunshine Coast artists will have the chance to share their work with the community at the inaugural Caloundra Artist Market.

The event is a labour of love for organisers Grace McClymont and Natasha Holloway, who want this to be an opportunity for artists to build connections and resonate with locals.

“Post COVID we were looking for a way to provide a risk-free opportunity for local artists to market themselves,” Ms McClymont says.

“We’ve been building it from scratch and it’s a great opportunity for artists to meet with new followers and other artists.”

The market will feature 16 local artists including painters, photographers and wearable artists who all use various mediums.

One such artist is Amanda Davidson, well known on the Sunshine Coast for her relaxed paintings of surfers.

“We are really excited about the buzz that is building around the event from both the artists and the community,” Ms McClymont says.

“We are so glad to be able to offer this opportunity for local artists to continue to gain exposure and be visible within the community.”

Located inside Caloundra’s The Strand building, the event will coincide with Caloundra Mini Festival’s Luminate and Caloundra Street Fair.

Ms McClymont, who owns Red Ink Rodeo gallery in The Strand, hopes Caloundra Artist Market will create a platform for similar events in the future.

“We believe in the value of art within the community and making it accessible,” she says.

“We are really keen not just to build artists up but to provide a place for people to meet and connect.”

Caloundra Artist Market will take place on Sunday, October 4 from 9am to 1pm.
