The Urban Angels Christmas Hamper Appeal is in full swing again to help those less fortunate this festive season.
Urban Angels is a Sunshine Coast charity providing nutritious meals for the community. Nearly 200 volunteers and a small number of staff deliver about 13,000 meals a month. In the lead-up to Christmas, the charity also will be putting together roast dinners for as many people as possible.
Coast resident Melanie Ottaway coordinates the hamper drive and has been raising funds for charities in the local area for a number of years.
“The gift of giving and being able to bring our community together in a time of crisis is beyond words,” Ms Ottoway says.
“I feel like I said the same thing last year. It’s been a rough few years on the Coast and we can all make a difference.”
Donations are still being accepted for the hampers, with Ninderry MP Dan Purdie offering his office as a donation drop-off point.
The hampers include canned soup, salmon, tuna and fruit, nut trail mixes and snacks, tea and coffee, long-life milk, condiments and spreads, plus plum pudding to go with the roast dinners.
Ms Ottaway says residents don’t need to go out and spend money, and may even have a few extra in-date items in their pantry to donate.
Donations can be dropped off at 11 Heathfield Road, Coolum Beach, or directly to Urban Angels at Unit 4, 27 Service Street, Maroochydore.
