Family-friendly events this Easter Weekend

Family-friendly events this Easter Weekend

Whether food or fun, surf or shopping is your thing, it’s a great time of year to grab the family and get out and about in our region.

For the foodies…

The annual Kenilworth Cheese, Wine & Food Fest kicks off on Easter Saturday, offering fine food and beverages as well as a host of live entertainment, activities and cooking demonstrations. The free day starts at 7am with a cheese rolling competition and the Cheester Egg Hunt for kids aged between four and seven years. The grown-ups can tuck into gourmet cooking demonstrations that showcase local Mary Valley produce.

For the culture lovers…

The Ocean Street World Festival will transform the Maroochydore precinct into an international party, celebrating cultural diversity. The free event features a stellar line-up of performers from all over the world and the chance to taste different cuisines, dance to different beats and enjoy the melting pot of cultures we have here on the Coast. The Easter Sunday event starts at 10am and carries on into the evening until 10pm.

For the surfers…

The long-standing Pa & Ma Bendall Memorial Surfing Contest will take over the whole Easter long weekend at Caloundra’s Moffat Beach. The contest began in 1974 and is second only to Bells as Australia’s longest continuous-running surfing event. The 44th annual contest is going to have the biggest line-up of competitors yet, with additional cadet divisions already added to accommodate the large number of entries.

For the shoppers…

The Caloundra Chamber of Commerce will bring its family-friendly twilight markets back to beautiful Pumicestone Passage on March 30, and April 6 and 13, from 5pm to 9pm. The markets provide a fantastic opportunity to get the family out and about and enjoy a Friday evening by Bulcock Beach. Stroll through the markets, which are filled with artisan, craft and homemade wares with some truly unique products to browse and the smells of food stalls filling the breeze. Don’t miss the sunset along the boardwalk while listening to the tunes of street entertainment, which bring life to the market atmosphere.

For the explorers…

The free annual Easter Treasure Hunt will be a highlight for kids visiting the Original Eumundi Markets on Easter Saturday. The first 300 children to check in at the market office from 8am will be given the clues needed to make their way through the colourful markets. They can take their time to explore everything and when they complete their journey, a chocolatey prize awaits. Keep an eye out for the Easter Bunny, who’ll be joining in the market fun, and say hi and pose for a market snap with Jasmine the gorgeous macaw from Maleny Botanic Gardens.
