Smart Pups – the Sunshine Coast
charity that trains and places life-changing assistance dogs with children living with special needs – is marking
15 years of operation.
The organisation will hold its Winter Gala at Maroochy RSL on July 16.
Founded on the Coast in 2011 by Patricia McAlister with just three animals in training, Smart Pups has grown into one of the region’s most-loved charities, placing more than 350 certified assistance dogs with families across Australia from its purpose-built training facility on 22ha.
The milestone gala will raise vital funds for the Smart Pups Community Shed: a new, on-site space that will enhance the charity’s training facilities and open the doors to local school and disability groups.
The shed is set for completion by the end of next year.
“Reaching 15 years is something every single person who has supported us should feel proud of,” Ms McAlister says.
“What started with three pups and a big dream has become a charity that’s transformed the lives of more than 350 children and their families. The Community Shed is the next chapter – a place where we can welcome our community in and show them the magic of what we do.”
The black-tie event (black and white with a splash of red) begins at 6pm. Single tickets start at $250 and tables of 10 are $2200.
