Get involved in NAIDOC Week

Flag raising ceremony
The Sunshine Coast Council and the Sunshine Coast NAIDOC Committee are hosting a flag raising ceremony to recognise and celebrate the history and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the region.

Everyone is welcome to the free event at the Nambour Library Forecourt on July 3 from 10am to 11am to hear guest speakers and watch traditional performances. Morning tea and light refreshments will be provided.

Nandjimadji Art Exhibition
Now in its eighth year, the Nandjimadji Art Exhibition showcases artwork by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experiencing or caring for someone who is living with mental illness or disability, or who is frail aged.

Through traditional and contemporary Aboriginal art, artists tell their story, connect with their culture and maintain spiritual strength.

The artwork displayed is for sale and many of the artists are in attendance throughout the week to tell their stories.

The exhibition is free to view at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital from July 4 at 9.15am through to July 9 at 5pm.

NAIDOC Family Fun Day
The annual event will be held on July 8 from 9.30am to 4pm at Black Swan Park, Cotton Tree.

A community walk will kick-start the day, with a Welcome to Country at 10am followed by traditional dances and guest speaker Aunty Jeannie Bell.

Live performances by primary school students from across the region, Troy Brady, and The Floating Bridges will provide a great soundtrack while people browse stalls and activities around the park.
