It’s easy to think of an op shop as somewhere to find a bargain. But for Bloomhill Cancer Care, it’s so much more.
As Bloomhill is preparing to open its 10th Sunshine Coast Op Shop at Forest Glen on August 31, the organisation is inviting the community to see the bigger picture behind every purchase, donation and volunteer shift.
About 75 per cent of Bloomhill’s revenue is generated through social enterprises, including its network of op shops – meaning that every quality donation, purchase and volunteer hour helps fund vital cancer support services for people and families across the Coast.
For almost 30 years, Bloomhill has walked alongside local people impacted by cancer, providing nursing, counselling, allied health, transport, support groups and wellbeing services.
“Many people don’t realise that when they shop in one of our op shops, they’re helping fund cancer care,” Bloomhill community and partnerships lead Jasmine Wheatley says.
“Every quality donation we receive, every purchase made in store and every volunteer who gives their time helps ensure Bloomhill can continue supporting local people and families when they need us most. That’s an incredible impact from something as simple as donating a bag of clothes or finding your next favourite outfit.”
Behind every Bloomhill op shop is a remarkable team of more than 380 volunteers who generously give their time to sort donations, assist customers and create welcoming spaces for the community.
As the Forest Glen store prepares to open its doors, Bloomhill is encouraging the community to donate quality, saleable items that someone else would be excited to take home.
