Lasting legacy: Footy codes plan new clubhouse

Plans are progressing for a permanent clubhouse at a major Coast sporting precinct, as rugby league and rugby union clubs work towards building a sustainable future for their communities.

The Sunshine Coast Falcons and Brothers Sunshine Coast had successful 2026 seasons, with both clubs crediting the facilities and support at The Sports Hub in Bokarina as key to their progress.

The Falcons finished the season as minor premiers before falling to Redcliffe in the grand final, while Brothers Sunshine Coast claimed their first senior reserves grade premiership just four years after the club was formed.

With both clubs continuing to grow, the next step is a planned permanent clubhouse at The Sports Hub to provide a long-term home for players, members and supporters.

The Sports Hub chairman Ashley Robinson says building a dedicated clubhouse is the final piece of the Sports Hub jigsaw, with the facility set to sit on vacant waterfront land between the sports training and recovery building and the 80-room accommodation facility.

“Both the Falcons and Brothers credit their relationship with The Sports Hub as a genuine factor behind their outstanding results this year and the opportunity to build a permanent home base for both clubs is more important than ever, especially as we are currently in the 2032 Olympics window,” he says.

“Nearly $150 million will be spent over the next few years to improve the existing Kawana sporting facilities prior to the Olympics including an upgrade to the stadium to take it to a 20,000-seat capacity.

“This is our opportunity to tap into this momentum and create a lasting legacy for future generations.”
