Line up announced

The Sunshine Coast’s newest entertainment venue for all ages brings a stellar mix of music artists to its opening weekend celebrations.

The region’s newest entertainment venue has announced its launch date, revealing an award-winning lineup to headline the opening weekend.

Multi-award-winning Australian indy rock band The Temper Trap has been locked in to perform at the refurbished Birtinya-based entertainment venue, The Station, on Friday, March 1.

The Station venue is the brainchild of locals Chris and Lauren Hignett who took over the lease of the former NightQuarter space late last year.

The husband-and-wife duo also run the Alley-Oops indoor skate park, as well as sports store Scooter and Skate at Birtinya.

Mrs Hignett says The Station team has been working around the clock to ensure the venue is ready to open its doors next month.

“The venue looks fantastic and we’ve spent a lot of time and money to ensure patrons have the best experience by investing in the latest sound and acoustic equipment,” she says.

“Our commitment to supporting local suppliers in the food and beverage sector has also been a priority as we want to be known as the family-friendly venue which supports locals and we aim to deliver this across all parts of the venue.

“Stage 1 of The Station will include a major concert venue, skate park, a scooter and skate store, pop-ups, a food truck precinct and a bar area.”

Mr Hignett says he is thrilled to welcome such a high-profile Australian band to launch the opening night.

“We had a ‘hit list’ of high-profile performers who we wanted for our launch night and The Temper Trap were right up there,” he says.

“They have made their mark on the national and international music scene for nearly 20 years and I think they are a great fit for our venue and the type of people we want to attract to The Station.”

Renowned DJ Havana Brown and DJ Brooklyn are also set to perform on the Saturday night, with Raw Ordio and Ampersand on the Sunday of the opening weekend.

Mr Hignett says the venue will also feature local musicians.

“There’s a strong local flavour to our launch weekend with a number of Sunshine Coast-based performers on stage, including The Betty Taylor Band who will be supporting The Temper Trap … along with Jonny Sonic (The Potbelleez) who will be supporting both DJ Havana Brown and DJ Brooklyn.

“We couldn’t be happier with the diverse range of music on offer for our opening weekend.

“This is the high quality of performers which our guests can enjoy every time they visit our venue.”

The Station will be a family-friendly, all-inclusive entertainment precinct operating six days a week.

It is located at 201/8 The Avenue, Birtinya.
