Hundreds of Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service staff will join local businesses and families at the annual Wishlist Fun Run on March 31.

Training is well underway at the hospital as the region’s newest doctors from Griffith University get ready to participate in the fun-fuelled run around Lake Kawana.

The doctors will take on teams from several local businesses and first-year Griffith University medical student Hamish Hamilton says the Fun Run is a great opportunity for him and his fellow students to get to know the area while helping to raise funds for local patients and families.

“Many of us are new to the area and are keen to be part of these great community events,” he says.

“Wishlist is our local health foundation so we want to support them and the work they do for the hospital, its patients and health staff across the region. The Fun Run is a great way for the Sunshine Coast community to have some fun and help Wishlist continue the important work they do.”

Mr Hamilton says he and his teammates are looking forward to a bit of competition.

Wishlist events manager Lisa Wilson says last year’s event saw more than 500 participants raise $25,000 for the foundation and the 2019 event is shaping up to be bigger and better.

“This is the first year we’ve offered a corporate team category. We’re hoping to get lots of businesses onboard to run, have fun and help raise vital funds for the local health service,” she says.

“Competitors will be able to run the entire lakeside track for the first time, looping around the lake via the new Stockland Birtinya. It’s a beautiful circuit and a great way to spend a Sunday morning.”

Entries are now open for families, individuals, groups and businesses to register for the five-kilometre family walk and run, 10-kilometre run or the Kids Dash all while raising money for hospital patients and their families. Visit wishlist.org.au for more information and to sign up.
