Lifesavers will have a bird’s-eye view with shark-spotting drones on patrol for the first time at Caloundra this summer.
The SharkSmart drones will be at Kings Beach and Happy Valley every day on school holidays, public holidays and weekends (weather permitting).
The new service is part of the state government’s landmark investment into swimmer safety across the state.
Earlier this year, the government committed to making what was only a drone surveillance program trial a permanent one. By 2026-2027, a total of 20 beaches across the state will have drone protection.
Member for Caloundra, Kendall Morton says locals and visitors to Caloundra can relax and enjoy the beach knowing that they are better protected.
“I welcome this investment into our community and acknowledge the great volunteers and lifesavers at Metropolitan Surf Life Saving Club Caloundra and Surf Life Saving Queensland who will play an important role in making our beaches even safer,” Ms Morton says.
