The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) is calling on the federal government to protect the number of international visitors coming to Australia.
A decision on visitor and Working Holiday Maker visa settings could be made within weeks, with QTIC warning that Queensland tourism operators risk being caught up in broader efforts to reduce net overseas migration, despite Working Holiday Makers and longer-stay visitors playing a distinct role in the visitor economy.
KPAT Hotels managing director Kenneth Wagner says, “As an owner and operator of hospitality businesses across Queensland, we see first-hand how important workforce availability is to the capacity of a hotel, restaurant or venue to perform.
“Working Holiday Makers are an important part of that workforce mix.”
