Weekend for men to speak honestly and connect

ManKind Project Queensland (MKPQ) is calling attention to a simple but often overlooked need: men need places where they can speak honestly, be supported and reconnect with what matters.

This July, MKPQ will hold its New Warrior Training Adventure at Woodfordia (near woodford) for the first time.

It is a modern 48-hour, rite-of-passage weekend for men, which will be held from July 24-26.

The ManKind Project movement began in the US in the 1980s and has grown into an international network of men’s communities, trainings and peer-led support groups.

Today, MKPQ supports 10 I-Groups, or men’s circles, across Queensland – from the Gold Coast to Cairns.

On the Sunshine Coast, MKPQ has a local I-Group in Buderim, where men meet weekly on Wednesday evenings.

Buderim I-Group member Chris Glover says the local men’s circle offers something simple but important.

“Every week, men come together here on the Sunshine Coast to check in, speak honestly and support each other without judgment,” he says.

“You do not need to be in crisis to need connection. Sometimes a man just needs a place where he can put down the mask, be real and be met by other men who understand.”

The move to Woodfordia is significant.

MKPQ treasurer Luke Abraham says the move honours the organisation’s history while opening the next chapter.

“Men are carrying a lot. Many carry it quietly. This work gives men a place to stop, tell the truth, listen deeply, take responsibility and reconnect with what matters,” he says.

The July training is open to men who are ready to explore what else is possible in their lives, relationships, families and communities.
