Charles Anthony Hall is a Sunshine Coast model whose star is on the rise. He is the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival’s 2017 ambassador and the first male model to be appointed to the role. Charles is in his final year of a degree in medical imaging and is currently writing his Honours thesis. When he finishes university at the end of the year, he’ll move to Europe to embark on his career as a full-time international model.

Where on the Sunshine Coast do you live? Usually I’m in Brisbane for uni, but I have been living on the Coast for the past few months for an internship as part of my final year of uni. My family home is by a lake in Mountain Creek – I love being back.

First job? Seeing my brother work at a kebab shop when he was 13 made me desperate for a job. The moment I was old enough, I joined my brother at Ali Baba in Kawana Shoppingworld. The best first job and first boss, ever.

What are you currently working on? I’m currently working on two big pieces; graduating the Honours program at uni and my modelling career. At the end of the year I’m heading overseas to live and work in Europe as a model. Speaking to my friends over there, it’s becoming clear that the full-time #modellife is definitely NOT a breeze. As such, I’ve been working on my physique with a trainer and nutritionist, as well as working closely with my agents in Brisbane and Sydney. My final year of uni has seen me working busily to get ethics approval for my Honours project. I’m writing a thesis about the impact of obesity on the radiation that scatters onto the medical staff when they’re working to stent open a blocked coronary artery under X-ray guidance. Obesity and coronary artery disease come hand in hand, as do large patients and increased radiation dose. I’m hoping to statistically relate and quantify these things.

Your family includes. . . Two horses, five cows, two chickens, two dogs, a cat, and a few humans. The humans are all pretty cool, too. I have no favourites.

First car? When my brother decided he needed a new ute, I got his old Mitsubishi Triton complete with subwoofer, snorkel, big tyres, and some tacky Northern Territory stickers – the best first car a teenager on the Coast could have.

Favourite book? The climate change thriller, Tilt, written by local author Max Oberon.

What are you reading now? Relentless by Tim Grover. It analyses the mindsets of the ultimate competitors and what separates good from great from unstoppable.

Favourite song? Paradise by Coldplay.

Best advice you’ve been given? Don’t take life so seriously, you’re not gonna make it out alive anyway.

What is your favourite place on the Sunshine Coast? Noosa. I love getting there early in the morning and running through the national park.
Where do you take visitors when they come to the Coast? Sunrise climb of Mt Coolum followed by a swim and coffee at Marcoola.

If you could change one thing on the Coast, what would it be? There needs to be a train/tram/light rail that runs from Landsborough or Nambour across to Maroochydore or Mooloolaba.

Can you nominate a day in your life that turned out to be a turning point? The day I didn’t get accepted into Medicine at James Cook University in Townsville. If I had gone to study there, my life would be very different. I am so happy with where my path has led.

What achievement are you most proud of? Being chosen as the first-ever male model ambassador for the Sunshine Coast Fashion Festival. I am so proud that my career as an international model will have commenced with this, on the SCFF’s 10th anniversary.

You are happiest when? When I am eating chocolate, getting a sports massage, and listening to classical music, all at once.

Tea or coffee? Coffee. Long black. When too much coffee has been consumed, I turn to green tea.

NRL or AFL? NRL – the Maroons!
