Unlike the current global cruising trend to build larger, Ponant takes another route, specialising in small ship luxury expedition cruises.
It’s the epitome of modern day expeditions where luxury merges with adventure on voyages into polar, tropical and sub-tropical destinations aboard the youngest and most modern fleet of luxury expedition ships in the world.
With just 132 staterooms and suites, 95 per cent with private balcony, guests enjoy French luxury and ambiance, experiencing the difference of small ship cruising.
The French touch is subtle – spa therapy by Sothys, luxurious toiletries by Hermes, Veuve Clicquot at the Captain’s cocktails and a fine selection of cheeses and freshly baked pastries.
Next year, Ponant will welcome two new ice-class Explorer ships, smaller iterations of the current fleet.
With just 92 staterooms and suites, these luxuriously appointed ships will also be packed with the latest in maritime and environmental protection technology.
These luxury expeditions extend around the globe, from Ponant’s French Mediterranean base to tropical islands and ice caps. Voyages commence and finish in easy-to-reach ports. Two of the current fleet, L’Austral and Le Soleal have both visited Australia and New Zealand recently with itineraries that include the sub-Antarctic Islands and Great Barrier Reef as well as the Solomon Islands and New Guinea.
This year, L’Austral will be in Australian waters for the inaugural season of Kimberley voyages and will return next year. A day of exploration can be followed by an evening of fine cuisine and wines, a relaxing post-dinner drink or a live show or performance.
